VAAP advises dozens on legal rights

On Saturday, June 22, VAAP hosted our first in-person legal orientation clinic at the visiting Mobile Mexican Consulate in Montpelier in partnership with Migrant Justice. Our team of two staff, two student interns, two volunteers, together with Migrant Justice staff and interns, shared Know Your Rights and civil legal orientation materials with the 150+ event participants.

On a walk-up basis, we offered brief advice-and-referral legal services for individuals with upcoming immigration court and ICE supervision dates; individuals looking for second opinions on subpar services they received from unscrupulous legal help providers (often referred to as notarios); people needing language accessible help with filing their taxes; and people applying for asylum using USCIS Form I-589.

We invited individuals to attend one of our walk-in/call-in legal intake clinics we’ll be hosting in the fall, where we will offer confidential and individualized legal advice and self-refer eligible individuals to a VAAP legal help clinic for relevant immigration legal services.

We would like to thank the advocates, community partners, volunteers, and interns who participated in the clinic. Your time and care means so much to us, and we could not have provided these legal services without you. More pictures available on our Instagram.
