Introducing ‘Know Your Rights’ fee-for-service
VAAP Introduces Fee-for-Service Know your Rights (KYRs) to Sustain Legal Support Amid Growing Challenges
At VAAP, our mission is to provide compassionate and accessible legal services to Vermont’s immigrant communities. However, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment, with overwhelming demand for Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations and a looming loss of government funding this July. This month, we made a difficult but necessary decision to introduce a fee-for-service limitation around our community education work to ensure that we can continue meeting the needs of our communities while balancing the demands of maintaining a small but growing nonprofit legal service provider.
Going forward, VAAP is charging a $500 flat fee for tailored KYR presentations to offset operational costs, regardless of location, duration, medium, or audience size and payable to directly to VAAP. We hope this approach will allow us to prioritize extending services beyond Chittenden County, where travel time and resource constraints often limit our ability to respond to requests.
This shift isn't one we make lightly, but we believe it is a necessary step to safeguard VAAP's long-term sustainability. Our goal remains the same: to thrive as a reliable service provider, community educator, and advocate for Vermont’s immigrant communities—even in the face of mounting challenges. So thank you for standing with us as we take this critical step toward sustainability. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@vaapvt.org with questions or feedback, or to request a tailored KYR presentation or training.
