Intersecting with Immigration: Impact & Consequences of Immigration Law on Other Areas of Civil & Criminal Practice*
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm - 1.5 MCLE (incl. 0.5 Ethics & *Rules 12/15)
Join Vermont Asylum Assistance Project (VAAP) advocates Jill Martin Diaz and Marnie Avila Alvarez, as well as Vermont's first-ever Immigrant Justice Corps Fellows, Cameron Briggs Ramos and Emma Matters-Wood, to discuss immigration intersections with other areas of law. This 90-minute session will survey common examples of how a Vermont non-citizen's immigration history, status, and posture can interact with the other civil and criminal legal services they receive. Explore the interplay between V.R.P.C. 1.1 through 1.5 and providing accessible, relevant issue spotting and referrals for non-citizen clients in need. Learn the landscape of who to call for specialized advice, and practice issue-spotting for effective immigration referral making. *Approved & certified to meet the requirements of Rules 12(a)(1) and 15(c) of the VT Rules of Admission
