VAAP wins detained client’s release

Huge congrats to VAAP’s noncitizen client, their Immigrant Justice Corps fellow lawyer Emma Matters-Wood, co-counsel Brett Stokes, volunteer interpreter and VAAP Board Member Sarah Osten, and community advocates from Migrant Justice and Community Asylum Seekers Project for advocating zealously to secure client’s release from ICE detention on bond today!

Fighting for freedom from a far flung ICE facility, isolated from VT family and counsel, was grave. Client considered abandoning their very strong asylum claim if the Immigration Judge denied bond. But not today! Not only did the IJ grant bond, but ICE counsel also waived appeal. The bond grant is final and client is coming home.

So thankful @vtasylum can resume working on their asylum case soon with continued support from our amazing partners. VAAP is here for you, Vermont. Onwards!
