Introducing VAAP’s intake waitlist

Effective today, VAAP is suspending our “Walk-in Wednesdays” intake pilot and instead introducing a new internet-based waitlist system. We apologize for the confusion this causes for our client communities and partners who share in service provision. We also appreciate your patience and grace as we work to increase access to quality immigration legal services responsibly, sustainably, and equitably. Read on to learn more!

Suspending the “walk-in wednesdays” pilot

Over the past two months, the newly expanded VAAP team of four staff made our best effort to expand our legal intake to better meet community needs. In particular, we piloted a new system wherein we welcomed noncitizens to walk-in or call-in on select days each month and consult with us and request legal help. We served dozens of clients over two Walk-In Wednesdays over September and October.

However, we learned the hard way that, unfortunately, we simply lack the resources to responsibly manage the increasingly overwhelming demand for services we receive during a no-appointment legal help clinic. For this reason, we are suspending the pilot and instead reverting to an internet-based waitlist.

instead, join our waitlist by submitting this form

Moving ahead, we are now 100% by appointment only. This means we are unfortunately unable to welcome walk-ins. This will be true during previously scheduled Walk-In Wednesdays, and at any other time. Instead, we will be calling people back from our legal help waitlist and either giving brief advice, making referrals, or scheduling in-person or virtual legal help appointments with our staff or pro bono volunteers.
